Re: Why Moore left West Ham?
I west to see us play Liverpool in 1967. John Charles was subjected to monkey noises from every part of the ground loudly & persistently. I remember thinking how can Liverpudlians think they are superior to anybody, and have detested the mawkish, grief mongering "Victims" ever since.

Used to love watching Clyde Best, and he was a great role model for the next generation.

I don't like to slag our players but Tommy Taylor was the worse CB I have seen in a West Ham shirt and we have had some rubbish I watched him for a few seasons home and away. He was better in the air but so slow.

The best central defender in the world playing along side Alan Stephenson or Tommy fucking Taylor, small wonder he wanted out

I remember going up to that game on a special train from Stratford.
The train was freezing with no heat and my old dad was sitting on his feet to try and keep them warm.
The poxy train broke down at Crewe and we didn't get to Blackpool until just before half time.
We all raced to get to the ground and as we got in Blackpool scored.
What a shit day and one of many going away to follow west ham

Re: Why Moore left West Ham?
He wanted to go to United in 1967, and it was blocked.

To be honest the remainder of his career was just pissing in the wind with a substandard group of West Ham players. Blackpool was just sympathetic of the malaise

Re: Why Moore left West Ham?
I think there was always underlying resentment between him and Greenwood.

Lots of reasons but the main one was Bobby thought he was a bit spineless when it came to dealing with the board but not when it came to the players for minor indiscretions. He always insisted that if Greenwood had thought his corner and got the money out of them for a couple of good players then he believed a title win would have been on the cards. I think he really resented him at the end.

This story is as old as the hills and gets dragged up all the time.As much as we all love Bobby and the club his relationship with West Ham and Ron Greenwood was at times strained to put it mildly but that's just life. Not many of us always love our employers and bosses do we.

interesting that Moore played more games for Fulham than di Canio played for us
.

Re: Why Moore left West Ham?
Nothing much to see here. Group of footballers looked out the window, saw it was -2 and decided there was no chance the game would go ahead. They took a chance and went to the pub, the game went ahead, they lost, and they got found out. They shouldn’t have done it, and they got fined a couple of weeks wages. From what I can see, that’s literally it?

Don’t know how anyone can feel hard done by? Seems like absolutely the right punishment. Suck it up and move on.

As other have said, there were bigger issues between Bobby and Greenwood, and there’s no way this incident played much of a role in him leaving the club

The bracelet was never in Moor’s possession.

Re: Why Moore left West Ham?
I've been told (by someone that presumably knows about these things) that Jeff Astle stole the bracelet and stuck it in Bobby's pocket as a prank. He never owned up though.

Re: Why Moore left West Ham?
No that was a case of mistaken identity. A lot of Colombians look like him.

Yeah but he did steal that bracelet didn't he?

:-)

Thanks Charley, It is sad to think about the great man leaving.

Re: Why Moore left West Ham?
Leaving West Ham through this incident alone was not the only one, Bobby had issues with Greenwood where he felt he wasn't valued by him, in his autobiography Bobby complained that it didn't matter what level you played at you should always receive praise when you had played well, Greenwood didn't do that.

Also the incident at the hospital where he was recovering from an operation and Greenwood remarked that the team was managing well without him, which made the rift bigger.

Clough put in a bid for £400,000 for him but told he was not for sale, Clough took Bobby to a posh London hotel and was told by the doorman that Moore couldn't come in as he didn't have a tie, Clough said to the doorman 'Don't you ever talk to one of my players like that again' and Moore at that point hadn't even signed, however Bobby was smitten and said in one of his autobiographies that if he could have been released he would have gone to Derby.
So the article from the BBC was only one of many incidents that Bobby felt hard done by and would have left.

Re: Why Moore left West Ham?
On the piss on a match day , the manager had to set an example .

Fergie gets applauded when he ‘sacked’ Beckham , Stam etc .

Can’t see a huge difference here.

Re: Why Moore left West Ham?
Bobby Moore left West Ham because he was past his best
Bit of a long bow to say he left because of a few drinks 3 years before

Was watching an old Big Match revisited a few months ago and Fulham conceded 5 at home and Bobby made a couple of horrendous errors. The manager was on later to talk about the crowd getting on his back

When you think back to what guys like Clyde Best endured you can only respect how they dealt with it. Class act

Re: Why Moore left West Ham?
"The thing I remember about Bobby Moore was that he wasn't only a good football person but a good human being."

I was lucky enough to have met him several times in my younger days. I couldn't have described him in any other way.

Just read that on the BBC site.

Best came in for real abuse, even from our own fans at times. I don't know how he took it.
